Hotels federation in pact with Swiss co to set up institute

Badal Sanyal

Kolkata , May 19

THE Federation of Hotel & Restaurant Associations of India (FHRAI) has signed an agreement with Ecole Hotelier de Lausanne (EHL) of Switzerland for consultancy and its academic affiliation for the new FHRAI Institute of Hospitality Management being established in Greater Noida near New Delhi. The institute will begin operation from August.

The federation's Vice-President, Mr S.K. Khullar, said that this was first time in the country that a management institute of international standards for the hospitality industry was being set up by the apex body, which has about 2,700 members in 300 cities.

The federation feels that the joint effort (with EHL) will enable the institute to provide hospitality education to students as EHL has been in the global hospitality education business for the last 112 years.

Mr Khullar said that the hospitality industry is one of the largest employers among the service sectors in India. There are about 20,000 hotels with five lakh hotel rooms and 20 lakh restaurants are at present operating in the country.

These establishments needed trained employees for maintaining high standard of services. Moreover, there was a great demand for Indian hospitality graduates and managers in many English-speaking developed countries as well as in West Asia.
