Venezuela keen on improving trade ties

Kolkata , May 20

THE energy sector is expected to make a difference in the relationship between India and Venezuela, thanks to, inter alia, the involvement of oil majors such as ONGC.

The Government of Venezuela is looking forward to further co-operation between the two nations in the coming days in terms of investment by Indian companies in that country's oil industry, said Ms Milena Santana Ramirez, Ambassador of Venezuela in India.

The other areas that are also likely to draw attention include steel and hydroelectric power, she noted, adding that food processing and pharmaceuticals too are emerging as promising areas of growth.

The Latin American nation, whose President, Mr Hugo Chavez Frias, visited India recently, is now investing in "social progress", the Ambassador mentioned while referring to various investment programmes in sectors such as education and health. She was addressing the Bengal National Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
