Farm credit

Rural credit is primarily credit to agriculture. That the farmer is doing a service to the entire community in the primary sector is often forgotten. That is why rural credit is viewed from the profit angle by the lenders. It is high time small farmers and food grain cultivators are shown some gratitude and appreciation for their labour. Interest-free credit should be granted to them. The reality that co-operative societies have failed in numerous cases, as in Kerala, has to be remembered when planning ahead in rural credit.
