In the interest of passengers...

If the Railway Minister is genuinely concerned about the passengers' health and welfare he should ensure that seasonal fruits are put on sale on the platforms at the majority of railway stations in the country.

Other health promoting items such as coconut water and fresh buttermilk also should be on sale at these platforms. On the other hand, the price of soft drinks could be increased by 50 per cent and the money from this be used to subsidise fruits.

Most of all, the Railway Minister should ensure availability of 100 per cent safe drinking water at all railway stations free of cost and many passengers cannot afford to buy packaged drinking water.

And last, but not least, trees could be planted along the platform to provide shade for travellers against the scorching summer heat.
