Coimbatore , May 23 JEANS producing cluster in Karnataka's Bellary will go global in marketing their products. A consortium of 12 companies, all producers of jeans, are developing a common portal - jeanclan.com - that will undertake mail order bookings. According to Mr Jagat Shah, Chief Executive Officer of the Ahmedabad-based Global Network, an international trade consultant firm which helps out the Bellary jeans producers consortium company, Jeanclan Consortium Pvt Ltd, in floating the business-to-consumer (B2C) Web site, the portal will be ready in three months. The Web site is developed in the US. The Bellary jeans cluster is developed under the UNIDO's cluster development programme and a committee in the Ministry of Textiles is entrusted the task to be a development agent for the cluster. Global Network has been retained by the textiles committee to provide linkages in training in export marketing to enable the textile clusters of small and medium enterprises identified across the country increase their export share. Mr Shah, who was in Coimbatore to participate in a seminar on export marketing for the SME textile entrepreneurs, told Business Line that Global Network, with the help of the students from the National Institute of Design, was involved in designing the portal and a Web mail ordering system. An appropriate trademark for the Jeanclan products would be developed. The Bellary-based jeans producers who together form a force behind the 350-odd jeans producing factories operating in the area outsource denim fabrics from major domestic producers that are used in their low-valued jeans manufacture.
