Mangalore , May 23

THE Karnataka Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Mr H.K. Patil, has said that the Government is planning to introduce four new Bills — Karnataka Food Security Programme Bill 2005, Karnataka Rural Employment Guarantee Bill 2005, Karnataka Child Rights Bill 2005, and Karnataka Compulsory Primary Education Bill 2005 — in the next session of the State Legislature.

These Bills will help in upholding the basic rights of people.

Addressing newspersons in Udupi on Monday, the Minister said the Government is seeking the opinion of legal experts and citizens on these Bills.

Mr Patil said that the State Government is using all the legal means to stop the permanent construction works taken up by Andhra Pradesh in the Krishna Basin. The Government has approached the tribunal in this regard. The tribunal has given six weeks time for the Andhra Pradesh Government to respond. Every effort is being made to protect State's interest, he said.

The Minister said that the Government is also planning to establish a State Human Rights Commission. A decision in this regard will be taken in a few weeks.

The Law and Parliamentary Department has prepared a policy paper and action plan for bringing about reforms in judicial sector, he said, adding the State Government has given its approval for the plan.

To do away with the delay in clearing the pending cases in the courts of the State, the Government has decided to set up six Lok Adalats.

The Government, which wants to set up 100 courts of various types in the State, is discussing the matter with the High Court. He hoped that a decision in this regard would be taken soon.
