Mercator Lines signs Rs 50-crore deal with SAIL

Mumbai May 23

, MERCATOR Lines Ltd (MLL), the country's second largest shipping company in the private sector, has bagged a Rs 50-crore contract from Steel Authority of India Ltd for transportation of about five lakh tonnes of coal over a period of 15 months from August.

So far, having been engaged only in liquid transportation, this marks MLL's foray into bulk shipping. The company has already contracted for two bulk carriers to consolidate its foray into the bulk segment.

MLL is looking for such long-term contracts for bulk transportation of coal from other steel makers, especially Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd, which runs the Vizag Steel Plant.
