AIR India Express, the low-cost arm of Air-India, has started operating flights from Mumbai and Delhi.

In a statement, the airline said that while the first flight from Mumbai took off on Sunday night, the maiden flight from Delhi left on Monday afternoon.

The airline will initially offer flights three times a week to Abu-Dhabi and Muscat from these cities. It plans to increase the frequency of both the flights to six times a week from the second half of next month, an official spokesman said.

Air India launched AI Express on April 29 by operating flights from Kochi, Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram to Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Muscat, Salalah and Al Ain. The airline operates a fleet of Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
