Elf Gas to open 50 more LPG stations in South

Bangalore , May 24

ELF Gas plans to open 50 more LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) dispensing stations in South India in a few years.

The Elf Gas India's Managing Director, Mr Philippe Mazenod, told newspersons on Tuesday that most of the gas dispensing stations will be set up in South India.

"CNG (compressed natural gas) is used in most of the cities in north and western India and hence we do not plan to set up LPG stations there," Mr Mazenod said. He said the company posted a turnover of Rs 200 crore in 2004.

He said the company currently has outlets in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala. The station in Bangalore, which was opened recently, is operated by Dars Automobiles.

The Dars Automobile's managing partner, Mr Dinesh Sipani, who also distributes LPG conversion kits, said around 25,000 kits have been distributed so far. In Bangalore alone, 10,000 auto rickshaws and 2,000 cars have been fitted with the kits. He said LPG gas kits are safer than petrol tanks in the passenger cars and can reduce the fuel bill by over 70 per cent.

Elf, part of the Total Group, currently operates in 130 countries and has a turnover of over $118 billion. It has over 1,000 outlets of LPG dispensing stations in Europe alone.
