AP team for Americas

HYDERABAD: A high-level Irrigation Ministry team from the State is going on an 18-day three-nation tour of South and North Americas from Thursday to study World Bank-funded projects.

Dr C.V.S.K. Sarma, Principal Secretary (Irrigation and Command Area Development, will lead the team.

The team would visit Chile and Argentina to study World Bank-funded projects there.

In the second leg, they would hold discussions with Bank officials in Washington, according to Mr Ponnala Lakshmaiah, Minister for Major Irrigation.

Mr Lakshmaiah, who was to lead the team opted out. The Government had announced that it was looking into various options to fund the Rs 46,000-crore worth irrigation projects announced by it.

Mr K. Rosaiah, Minister for Finance, admitted that there were enquiries from the Bank with regard to funding irrigation projects in the State.
