Preparations on for ADB meet in Hyderabad next year

K.V. Kurmanath

Hyderabad , May 24

A HIGH-LEVEL delegation from Andhra Pradesh, which will host the 39th annual meeting of board of governors of Asian Development Bank (ADB) next year, visited Istanbul to get a firsthand idea of how the Turkish capital had organised the 38th edition of the meeting early this month.

As a follow up, the State Government is planning to form a separate cell to coordinate between various departments for the upcoming meeting. The cell will be headed by a Deputy Secretary.

"We attended the meeting to observe the intricacies of organising such a major gathering of the ADB," Mr A. Giridhar, Secretary (Finance), told Business Line.

The State will host 3,500 high-level officials from the bank, governments, ministers and representatives from investment bankers. The official delegation comprised Mr P. Ramakanth Reddy, Principal Secretary, Mr Giridhar and Mr Vikram Harsha, Deputy Secretary.

"Our main focus had been on accommodation, travel plans, partnership with the industry, issues related to tourism and the actual conduct of the meeting," Mr Giridhar said.

The team also held discussions with ADB officials, Turkish Government officials and private sector participants. "They spent a lot of time with us, giving graphic details on the conduct of the meeting," he said.

The ADB meeting in Hyderabad will be held during May 4-6 next year. The following year, the 40th edition will be hosted by Kyoto, Japan.

The Istanbul meeting was attended by delegates from ADB's 63 member countries, including senior economic and finance planning government officials, ministers, academics and investment bankers.
