New Projects Swiss PET bottle co opens plant in Pune Our Bureau
Pune , May 24 THE Switzerland-based SIH group on Tuesday announced the inauguration of its first production plant in Asia at Mulshi near Pune. Magplastic Switzerland, a supplier of PET bottle blow moulding machines in the Indian market, has set up Magplastic Asia to cater to the growing domestic demand. The company's machines produce PET bottles used by cola companies as also containers for water, juice, liquor, pharma products, and even detergents and personal-care products. Speaking at the inauguration, Mr Pierre Grossenbacher, Managing Director and CEO, Magplastic Machinery, said: "The new plant at Pune will provide Magplastic with expansion possibilities and is large enough to supply the fast growing Indian market with efficient PET bottle production machinery." He added: "The plant will also provide machinery for exports to other countries. The operation is assembling two different types of blow moulding machines as well as a laminate tube making machine under agreement with its sister company, AISA." Located in the Raisoni Industrial Park, the plant is spread over 17,600 sq m, of which the building covers 2,400 sq m. Construction of the plant began in December 2003 and was completed in the second half of 2004. "We hope to make at least 15 PET bottle making machines and 4-5 laminate tube making machines in the first year," said Mr Grossenbacher, adding that the company has invested Rs 10 crore in the facility. "The plan is to first cater to the demand in the Indian market before looking at other markets in Asia and Africa."
