UTV's Hollywood tie-up for The Namesake

UTV Motion Pictures is collaborating with Hollywood studio Fox Searchlight and Japanese producer Entertainment Farm to co-produce the film The Namesake, an adaptation of Pulitzer winning novel by the same name authored by Jhumpa Lahiri.

The crew of the film is in Kolkata for a 10-day shoot of the Indian leg of the film.

While Fox will be the overseas distributors of the film, UTV Motion Pictures will handle the Indian territory.

The script has been written by Sooni Taraporewala. The Namesake is the story of the Ganguli family which moves from Kolkata to New York.

UTV is also venturing to co-produce films with Miramax International, Emperor Motion Pictures and Europa Corp.
