Accidents One killed, 2 injured in boiler explosion on ship at the New Mangalore Port Our Bureau
Mangalore , May 27 ONE person was killed and two others were injured when a boiler exploded on a ship at the New Mangalore Port on Friday. Police sources said Ravi Kumar Dadala from Andhra Pradesh, third engineer in the vessel MT Basaveshwara, was killed in the boiler explosion that took place around 8.20 a.m. Two crewmembers - Mr Balaram Sarkar from West Bengal and Mr Divakar Singh from Bihar - suffered burns in the accident. They have been admitted to a hospital in Mangalore. Sources at thePort told Business Line that a fire was witnessed in the engine room while loading motor spirit on to MT Basaveshwara. Mr Dadala, who went to inspect it, was killed in the explosion. MT Basaveshwara, which belongs to Shipping Corporation of India, was loading motor spirit cargo of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL). The cargo was sold to Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. Cargo was not affected in the incident, sources said. Fire service personnel, who rushed to the spot, averted a major mishap, they added. Panambur Police have registered a case.
