AP to upgrade nursing schools to colleges

Our Bureau

Hyderabad , May 29

WITH an objective to prepare nurses to cope up with advancements in the fields of medicine and related sciences, the Andhra Pradesh Government has decided to upgrade all nursing schools located in the State to colleges.

Last year, the Indian Nursing Council had resolved not to consider any proposal for operating of new general nursing and midwifery schools and to work out strategies so that all nursing and midwifery schools attached to the Medical Colleges could be upgraded to colleges by 2010.

Accordingly, the council has requested the State Government to take immediate steps towards upgrading schools of nursing to colleges of nursing for those schools that have adequate clinical and other infrastructure facilities.

The State Government was also asked not to issue the essentiality certificate for the school of nursing from year 2006-07 onwards.

Following this, the State Government has issued fresh orders denying essentiality certificates and permissions for establishment of nursing schools from the academic year 2006-07.
