`Need for shift in energy strategy'

Our Bureau

New Delhi , May 29

INDIA needs a paradigm shift in its energy strategy to bring down the energy intensity per unit and avoid growth deceleration, according to the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry.

The chamber has issued a paper with the Petroleum Conservation Research Association, titled `Shaping the Future of Energy'.

The paper notes that the time is ripe for giving a strategic fillip to energy service companies to develop, install and finance projects designed to improve energy efficiency and maintenance cost for facilities over a 7-10 year time- frame.

Terming India's energy intensity per unit as 0.54 as "very high", the paper said this indicates high wastage.
