Strategy Apparel brand Daks plans expansion, to enter malls Anna Peter
Mumbai , May 30 THE apparel division of the Forbes Gokak Group, which is the licensee for Daks, Trussardi and Savile Row, is confident that the Indian market will notch up sales of Rs 75 crore - Rs 100 crore in the next five years. According to Ms Reetika Dalal, Executive In-charge (Upmarket Brands Division), Forbes Gokak Ltd, accessories will account for 25 per cent of the turnover in the next three years. The company will also launch golf shoes in the next few months. While Daks is present in 18 locations right now, its boutiques are moving from only hotel locations to malls. Spaces have already been booked at new malls. Ms Dalal added that the sheer number of footfalls being witnessed at malls and the `environment' there would attract more business. It is expected to raise the number of stores to 30 from the current 21 by the end of this year and 35 stores by the end of 2006. This is intended to make the brand more accessible to the public. While the product is upmarket and caters to a niche clientele, consumers also looked at it as `value-for-money' propositions, priced as they are somewhat higher than premium brands such as ColorPlus and Van Heusen. In the next two months the company will launch Trussardi and Savile Row. Trussardi provides the complete accessories range for women handbags, luggage, perfumes, scarves and more. It will be sold only in hotel boutiques. Boutiques are planned in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore. Two boutiques would be added every year. Savile Row is a clothing range aimed at men and will be mostly sold through the shop-in-shop format. Initially 20 shop-in-shops will be set up, which will be expanded to 50-75 in 2006. The division is looking at distributors to give it a wide reach. Its price range is expected to be appealing starting at Rs 795 for a shirt. She added that the market was evolving fast and that the next five years would see many global brands enter India. She gave the instance of the new Daks store at the Inorbit Mall in Mumbai it broke even in the first six months.
