Shipping Kochi box terminal gets four new RTG cranes Our Bureau
Kochi , May 30 DUBAI Port International, which has taken over the Rajiv Gandhi Container Terminal of the Kochi port, has brought in four brand new rubber-tyred-gantry (RTG) cranes to operate in the container yard. These eight-wheeled units will be installed and fully operational by June-end. They were specifically purchased to increase productivity for DPI's customers in Kochi, a press statement issued here said. With the arrival and installation of the new equipment, two of the RTGs currently in use will be completely rehabilitated. Prior to DPI's involvement, the RGCT had five RTGs only one of which, a leased machine, was in operation. Two of these will be further rehabilitated to improve performance and productivity. Once this programme is completed in the third quarter of the current year, the RGCT will have seven fully functioning RTGs, thereby, further increasing DPI's ability to deliver the highest levels of customer services at the port. Commenting on the delivery, Mohammed Sharaf, Managing Director of DPI Terminals, said, "Our commitment to developing RGCT and the new terminal at Vallarpadam is long term and we intend to offer our customers the highest levels of service when they call at the RGCT."
