Newspapers & Publishing Roundtable on media role in Hyderabad Our Bureau
The roundtable will be organised by the Press Academy of Andhra Pradesh and the Centre for Media Studies (CMS). Announcing this at a press conference, Mr D. Amar, Chairman of the Academy, and Dr N. Bhaskar Rao of CMS, said noted journalists, newspaper owners, editors and civil society leaders would take part in the daylong session. Dr Bhaskar Rao said it is the civil society rather than the Government to decide on `Laxmanrekha' for media. "We should not allow the Government to take advantage and keep tabs on media operations," he said. He said the media is expected to observe certain checks and balances as well as standards of objectivity, responsibility and responsiveness. The roundtable would have sessions on topics like `Is there a need for correctives?' Mr Ramoji Rao, Chairman of Eenadu group, would deliver the keynote address, while Mr M.J. Akbar, Editor-in-Chief of Asian Age and Deccan Chronicle, and Mr Kuldip Nayar, senior journalist, would address the inaugural session.
