Scheme for veg cultivation in Thiruvananthapuram

Our Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Canara Bank has introduced a special financing scheme to promote vegetable cultivation by households.

The scheme, which will initially be available in Thiruvananthapuram city, envisages extending easy credit to households that take up vermi-composting-based vegetable farming, says a bank press release.

It is intended to complement the State Agriculture Department's `nagarathil oru nattinpuram' initiative intended to encourage vegetable cultivation by urban households. This initiative also encourages the use of vermi-compost in vegetable farming as a means of managing the organic waste produced by a household.

The State Agriculture Minister, Ms K.R. Gouri Amma, formally launched Canara Bank's financing scheme at a function held in the city on Tuesday.
