Rural Development CII-DRDA Tiruchi initiative Our Correspondent
According to the Chairman of CII, Tiruchi Zone, Mr M.P. Ramasamy, the initiative is to utilise the management skills in the corporate sector for the growth of rural economies. The CII members would be adopting the villages to promote self-sufficiency and cleanliness with focus on the economic growth of self-help groups. A social mapping would come first, based on which an action plan would be drawn. The DRDA Project Officer, Mr M. Manohara Singh, said the initiative is to channelise the available resources in specific areas, such as health, micro-enterprise and social security. Though a number of programmes are implemented for the purpose by the Government, there is need for continuous motivation. Voluntary organisations have succeeded in capacity building and the corporate sector could help the economic activities of self-help groups. Ancillary industrial units could be set up with Government assistance of subsidy and credit. Initially, four villages in the district, namely, Navalurkuttapattu, Ellakudi, Samayapuram and Gunaseelam have been identified, the sources said.
