Letters Power reforms
The editorial `Politics of power reforms' (Business Line, June 1) has pointed out that the political opposition to the power sector reforms basically centres around one point free power to farmers. Since it is related to rural development, employment generation, input subsidy, cross-subsidy, a comprehensive policy is needed. The basic problem is shortage and increasing demand. The power crisis in many States is a reflection of the failure in planning and execution. There is a need to concentrate on increased production by encouraging conventional energy production, bio-fuel, research and development, and develop new resources. A.
