Bangalore , June 1

FLORA 2005, an international floriculture exhibition is being organised here from July 1. The event is sponsored by the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (Apeda) and supported by the National Horticulture Board and other industry associations.

Floriculture companies and delegations from the Netherlands, Japan, Israel, France, Germany, Italy, Singapore, Dubai, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are participating in the three-day event.

Mr K.S. Money, Chairman, Apeda, said the expo would provide a platform to showcase the country's flora and expose the stakeholders to newer technologies. It will also include an international conference to address emerging issues in the industry.

Besides, leading producers of rose, carnation, gerberas, anthurium and flower seeds would showcase their products, with the special feature being dry flowers and plants sector. Over three lakh people are expected to visit the expo.

Mr Money said India's share in the $80-billion global floriculture market was only about 0.6 per cent with Rs 250-crore exports registered in fiscal 2004. However, the export prospects look brighter, he said, adding Apeda is constructing auction complexes in Mumbai, Bangalore and Kolkata to assist the industry.
