ACC, Aditya Birla cos post higher cement shipments for May

FOUR large cement manufacturers have reported varying increases in despatch and production of cement for the month of May 2005.

The Associated Cement Companies has reported an 8.3 per cent increase in despatches of cement for the month. Cement despatches for the month stood at 15.24 lakh tonnes, up from 14.07 lakh tonnes reported for May 2004.

Production for the month increased by 12 per cent, amounting to 15.65 lakh tonnes, up from 13.97 lakh tonnes.

The Aditya Birla group, reporting combined figures for its cement companies, including UltraTech Cement, recorded a 14.2 per cent increase in despatches, at 24.78 lakh tonnes.

Group production rose by 14 per cent, amounting to 25.17 lakh tonnes.

Gujarat Ambuja Cements reported a 5 per cent increase in despatches for the month at 10.97 lakh tonnes (10.42 lakh tonnes). The company reported a 6 per cent increase in production, which stood at 11.04 lakh tonnes (10.44 lakh tonnes).

Despatches from Ambuja Cement Eastern Ltd, recorded at 1.48 lakh tonnes (1.87 lakh tonnes), fell by 21 per cent, however. Production, recorded at 1.48 lakh tonnes was down from 1.82 lakh tonnes, a decrease of 19 per cent.
