IPR Lee Pharma wins patent case against Eli Lilly Our Bureau
Hyderabad , June 4 LEE Pharma (P) Ltd has claimed that it has won a patent infringement case against Eli Lilly & Company. The Rs 33-crore company is into manufacture of drugs in various therapeutic categories and claims strengths in specialisation of modified release dosage forms of various pellets and granules. It is currently exporting its pellets to around 25 countries in the global market. In a press release here, the company said the patent case pertained to olanzapine, the generic version of Eli Lilly's patented drug Zyprexa, indicated for the treatment of Schizophrenia. The Patent Office in Lima, Peru has rejected the claims of Eli Lilly about infringing process of olanzapine form-I. The company said the success came about through representation by its marketing partner for Latin America, Micro Labs, based in Bangalore, which filed the dossier to launch its olanzapine form - I formulation in Latin America. According to the Lee Pharma Managing Director, Mr A. Venkat Reddy, Eli Lilly filed a case against Micro Labs in Peru stating that the latter's product was infringing the process.
