Free power

Free power supply to farmers is causing them more harm than good. It is depleting the ground water table at an alarming rate, causing power shortages in States due to large-scale wastage and pilferage, necessitating setting up of more coal fired power plants, causingsea water seep into theground water table, deteriorating power quality.

Why are politicians promising only free power supply to farmers? Why not free seeds, fertilisers, water, or freedom from middlemen, who take away most of the net revenue, or freedom from the moneylenders who are responsible for their indebtedness and steep interest rates?
