Kolkata , June 6

MAHINDRA British Telecom has shortlisted Kolkata as a possible location for its third, high-end telecom software development centre in the country. Among the other destinations that are being considered as possible locations for the purpose are Chennai, Chandigarh and Noida.

The company's Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Mr Vineet Nayyar, and its President, Mr C.P. Gurnani, on Monday met the Principal Secretary in West Bengal's Department of Information Technology, Dr G.D. Gautama, and discussed the possibility of setting up a development centre here. They said that, for this purpose, the company would require 15-20 acres of land.

Dr Gautama told Business Line that the availability of infrastructure and appropriate human resources in Kolkata, low cost of operations and a low rate of attrition had attracted the company to Kolkata.

The State Government would favourably consider the company's request for land. A detailed proposal in this regard was awaited, he added.

Mahindra British Telecom currently has two development centres located in Mumbai and Pune. The Mumbai facility is spread over an area of 350,000 sq.ft.
