Advani resignation

The BJP leader, Mr L. K. Advani's remarks in Pakistan on Jinnah and Babri Masjid may have raised the hackles of the Sangh Parivar and the VHP. But Mr Advanihas won and India has gained.

A shrewd politician, he was able to remove his image as a hawk and project that the peace process was initiated by the NDA. He has given a political cover to it. Is it an Advani gambit?(Business Line, June 8)It could be. It gives the BJP a new turn.

At a time when ideological and leadership conflicts are going on in the BJP, Mr Advani has offered the BJP an opportunity to introspect, think and formulate its strategy to emerge as a forward-looking national party. It is only fitting that the BJP supports him and reconsiders his resignation.
