New Delhi , June 8 THE national carrier of Malaysia, Malaysian Airline System, is to begin a three-times-a-week flight from Kuala Lumpur to both Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram from early next year, the airlines newly appointed Regional Manager, South Asia, Mr Christopher Yek, said on Wednesday. Addressing a press conference, Mr Yek said that the airline would also be increasing the number of flights being operated to Delhi from the forthcoming winter season. The airline is to offer a daily connection between Delhi and Kuala Lumpur from winter this year. At present the airline operates four-times-a-week on this sector. Besides, Malaysia Airlines is to start a three-times-a-week flight to Amritsar from October this year. At present, the airline operates 30 weekly flights to seven Indian cities including a daily flight to both Chennai and Mumbai. India is an important market for the airline contributing 64 per cent of the total passenger traffic and 68 per cent of the total revenue of South Asia from the existing 30 weekly flights. "India will be a very major station for us," Mr Yek added. The airline also plans to explore business opportunities in the field of airport upgradation, technology, consultation, aircraft maintenance and pilot and crew training.
