New Madurai-Chennai train

Our Correspondent

MADURAI: A new passenger train, between Madurai and Chennai, will be flagged off by the Union Minister of State for Railways, Mr R. Velu, on June 16.

While the new train will run technically as a Madurai-Villupuram-Madurai passenger service, it will be attached to the Pondicherry-Chennai Egmore-Pondicherry fast passenger at Villupuram. The new train will comprise eight unreserved coaches and a second class-cum-luggage van. The fare will be Rs 64 against Rs 118 for a superfast express train in an unreserved compartment.

To facilitate many crossings en route, the new train that would be run during night, would take 11 hours to reach Villupuram from Madurai. The timings and stoppages are yet to be decided, the sources added.
