Human Resources `Temping' gaining currency here Our Bureau
Hyderabad , June 9 AS pressure on finding the right talent rises alongside attrition challenges, human resource departments of large corporations have now begun to take to `Temping', something very popular in the West. Temping is staffing service by a third party service provider. Such staff either take to a specific task or work on a time-bound plan or may even be absorbed by the company. The Managing Director of Teamlease Services, Mr Ashok Reddy, told Business Line, "Temping is a $200-billion market worldwide and is growing at a healthy pace. As Indian economy gets integrated with others, bringing in best practices, increasingly companies are taking to this concept. What started with certain services sectors is, interestingly now making inroads into manufacturing and IT services and business process outsourcing companies lately." "Lately, we are seeing momentum in BPO and IT services. Traditionally, IT and BPO firms preferred to manage recruitment on their own or seek out a recruitment agency to handle their task. Given the high attrition levels and seeing the advantages of temping, more BPO companies are now opting for temping," Mr Reddy said. Teamlease Services, the staffing solutions provider, expects to more than double its current headcount of 16,500 people to 34,000 by the end of this year. "Established in 2002, Teamlease has grown to 2,200 people in 2004 with revenues of Rs 23 crore in 2004, and to 14,000 people with revenues of Rs 127 crore in 2005. We have expanded rapidly to new centres and expect to cross 34,000 people this year with revenues of Rs 337 crore. Registered in Hyderabad and with backoffice and functional centre in Bangalore, we have grown to several locations in India and plan to concentrate on the domestic market," Mr Reddy said.
