Rural Development Refresher courses for anganwadi workers in AP Our Bureau
Hyderabad , June 9 ANGANWADI workers, who number about 60,000 in Andhra Pradesh, would now get regular skill upgrades through refresher courses, as per a directive by the State Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. An equal number of helpers, and other staff working in the Women and Child Welfare department also would be brought under this programme. The idea was to ensure the successful implementation of all the programmes. Dr Reddy, who reviewed the performance of the department also wanted to ensure that Supplementary Nutrition Programme be extended to all the 40, 000 children under Girl Child Protection Scheme in the State. He agreed to increase the diet charges for the programme from the present Rs 1.35 to Rs 2 per child per day. The CM agreed to issue necessary directions to the department concerned to divert 15 per cent of general funds from local bodies to women's institutions and children's homes. Dr Reddy directed the officials to concentrate on pre-school education benefiting 19 lakh children under the age group of 6 months to 6 years in the State. At present there are three collegiate homes in the State having 60 candidates each. Three old age homes enrolled 30 each, 81 children homes having 60 each, nine State service homes admitting deserted and distressed women, 17 working women's hostels having 50 to 70 strength.
