HYDERABAD: The Centre has given environmental clearance for the Rs 560-crore Pulichintala project. Calling it a milestone, the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, said that the project would be completed in 24 months.

Speaking to newspersons on Thursday, he said that work on the project would begin in a week. While land for the dam had been acquired, land in the submergence area is being acquired. A technical team has gone to the project site.

"We are putting in place a good rehabilitation package for the displaced. Issues like where colonies are to be set up are being worked out," he said.

A sum of Rs 100 crore has been deposited with the District Collector for rehabilitation and relief works.

The project would help in stabilisation of 11 lakh acres in Krishna district. With regard to threats by Maoists and the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), the Chief Minister said that the Government would go ahead with the project despite their threats.
