Hindustan Construction to take up more township projects

Our Bureau

Mumbai , June 9

HINDUSTAN Construction Co Ltd, which has been focusing on major projects in the roads, power and irrigation sectors, will be looking out for township development projects.

It has already forayed into township projects by forming a joint venture with other companies for development of a 10,000-acre township for Lavasa Corporation near Pune.

"We will in the future take up more such projects," Mr Ajit Gulabchand, HCC's Chairman and Managing Director, told newspersons after the company's shareholders meeting in Mumbai.

Another area that HCC will be focusing on is BOT projects in the roads and irrigation sector. "We recently forayed into BOT-based road projects after we bagged the State highway improvement project in Maharashtra.

"The project is being executed in joint venture with Lavasa Corporation, with the scope of work including improvement of 20.8 km of Pune-Paud road and 11 km of Pirangut-Mutha road," Mr Gulabchand said.

He said the company was upbeat in the roads segment. "After six months of slowing down, the National Highways Development Programme has achieved its earlier momentum and the process of tendering and awarding of contracts has been speeded up."
