KSRTC to unveil Internet ticket booking facility soon

Mangalore , June 10

THE Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation Ltd (KSRTC) will launch Awatar (anywhere anytime reservation) — Internet ticket booking facility — for its users in August.

The Mangalore Divisional Controller of KSRTC, Mr P.B. Karumbaiah, disclosed this at the inaugural run of the Mangalore-Mumbai Volvo bus service here on Friday.

He claimed that KSRTC would be the first road transport corporation in the country to introduce such a service for its users. The service will be launched in Bangalore on an experimental basis.

Now Railways provides such a service to its users, he said.

In Awatar, the user can book his ticket at any time and from anywhere by paying online. In the existing online booking facility, one has to visit a designated booking counter for reservation.

It may be mentioned here that the KSRTC Director, Mr Bhaskar Rao, during one of his recent visits to Mangalore, had mentioned that the implementation of Awatar facility would help increase the load factor by 15 per cent.

Mr Karumbaiah said that KSRTC is operating bus services from Mangalore to Bangalore and Tirupati under the `premium category'.

Introduction of Airavata (Volvo) bus service between Mangalore and Mumbai is another step in that regard.

The Mangalore division will soon introduce Mayura bus services to Mysore and Panjim in Goa under the premium category.

The Member of Parliament from Mangalore, Mr Sadananda Gowda, who flagged off the Mangalore-Mumbai service, commended KSRTC for providing good service to people of Dakshina Kannada.

He said that KSRTC is giving a stiff competition to private operators in the district through its services.

The introduction of a bus service to Mumbai under the premium category may give competition to even Railways along the coastal route, he added.
