KCCI opposes power tariff revision

Our Bureau

MANGALORE: The Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has opposed the proposed revision of electricity tariff by the Mangalore Electricity Supply Company (Mescom) Ltd.

A KCCI release said here that Mescom has filed an application before the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission for the revision of retail supply tariff and wheeling tariff for 2005-06.

The release said that the proposed tariff is nearly four-fold of the inflation point. No industry can tolerate such `exorbitant' rate hike, it said.

A meeting of the KCCI members will be held in Mangalore on June 13 to discuss the issue. Suggestions will be accepted from the general consumers of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts at the meeting, the release added.
