Outlook Avi-Oil plans to expand overseas Pratim Ranjan Bose
Kolkata, June 13 HAMSTRUNG by duty anomalies at home, Avi-Oil Private Ltd is considering expanding operations in other countries to ramp up sales in the civil aviation sector. The company is a joint venture between Indian Oil Corporation (holding 25 per cent stake), Balmer Lawrie (25 per cent) and Nyco SA of France (50 per cent). Avi-Oil is the only manufacturer of lubricants, grease and other such products for the aviation sector. While focussing on backward integration to reduce the import content in the final products, the company is also considering opening sales and service stations in multiple locations in the subcontinent to capitalise on the brand equity of Nyco. The expansion in the civil aviation sector is particularly aimed at cornering business from international liners, leveraging on the facility of multi-location servicing. Currently offering its services from only India and Nepal, Avi-Oil is unable to enter into service contracts with any major international airlines. Stating that the plans are yet to be firmed up, sources said Nyco products were available in more than 65 countries through local representatives or joint ventures. Accordingly, Avi-Oil is looking at expanding services in locations in the subcontinent where Nyco products are not available.
