Global meet lauds poultry major's farm model

POULTRY major Venkateshwara Group's poultry farming model has received appreciation from the World Agricultural Forum's (WAF) World Agri Congress 2005 held at Missouri, US, last month.

The group's development model of `science, service and support for sustainability' in poultry for small and marginal farm holdings was presented by its Chief Executive Officer, Mr O.P. Singh, at the fourth World Agri Congress which deliberated on the theme `Key to peace, security and growth: Local, Regional and Global Agri-food Systems.'

Over 300 leaders from Government, non-governmental/inter-governmental organisations, besides, corporate and academic communities participated in the congress held from May 16 to 18. The topics covered at the meet included food security and global peace through integration of local, regional and global markets, market-driven agri-food system, technology transfer for growth and rural development, international agreements.

Mr Singh appraised WAF on the group's poultry development model of its indigenous research, forward/backward integration and empowerment of the farmers through poultry.

According to a communication from the group, the role played by the group's poultry diagnostics and research centre with its technical service centres located in over 100 poultry pockets in monitoring the poultry disease control, the activities of Dr B.V. Rao Institute of Poultry Management and Technology that offers training to the entry-level poultry entrepreneurs and the market mechanism provided to all the stakeholders through the creation of the national egg co-ordination committee and BROMARK, and their price stabilisation roles were explained at the congress.

Bags productivity award

Venkateshwara Hatcheries Private Ltd has won the National Productivity Council Award for the year 2003-04 for the best productivity in the poultry sector and this is the 16th consecutive year that the group has won this award.

The group's communication said the award given away by Mr Sharad Pawar, Union Minister for Food and Agriculture, was received by the VH group Chairperson, Ms Anuradha J. Desai.
