Aquaculture Trawling ban takes effect in Kerala Our Bureau
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The monsoon-time trawling ban came into effect within the territorial waters of the State from midnight on Tuesday. The 45-day ban will hold until July 29, an official spokesman quoted the Fisheries Minister, Mr Dominic Presentation, as saying. Only traditional boats would be allowed to operate during the period of ban. The Minister stated that mechanised boats from outside would not be allowed to enter the State's territorial waters during the ban. Those that happened to find themselves operating within the State at the time of implementing the ban were asked to leave by Tuesday midnight. Round-the-clock patrolling would be conducted to check violation of the ban. The Minister sought cooperation of both the fishermen community and the boat owners to ensure the peaceful enforcement of the ban.
