Infrastructure AP to promote Tier-II cities as IT centres Our Bureau
Hyderabad , June 15 IN its bid to develop tier-II cities in the State, the Andhra Pradesh Government is offering incentives to IT companies to locate their facilities in these places. It will focus on Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Tirupati and Kakinada. The Government has signed up with 14 companies, co-ordinating location of their centres. In a press release, the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, said priority would be given to employment generation in the State. In addition to the agricultural sector development, the Government will continue its efforts to attract investments in the industrial sector in general and IT in particular. The State Secretary of IT&C, Ms K. Ratna Prabha, said these 14 companies were expected to make an investment of Rs 200 crore and create 13,000 jobs by the time they complete their projects. The State has signed MoUs with Mahati Software, Miracle Software, Nunet Technologies, Sankhya Technologies, Symbiosis Technologies, VisualSoft Tech, ilabs, Color Chips, Paradigum Info Tech (India), Softpro Systems, Navayuga Infotech, Etisbew.Com, Softsol and Kenexa Technologies. The IT/ITES exports from Visakhapatnam are projected to reach Rs 1,000 crore by 2009. In addition to these companies, Satyam, Wipro and TCS have evinced interest to set up their centres in Visakhapatnam. During the year 2004-05, Visakhapatnam ranked seventh in Tier-II locations in the country with 37 companies recording Rs 70 crore of exports. Given the momentum, Visakhapatnam is expected to enhance its position as potential Tier-II location in the country by next year. The State has a vast potential to support growth of IT/ITES industry having 240 engineering colleges bringing out 86,000 engineers and 272 Masters in Computer Applications Colleges with 13,555 students and 3,50,000 general graduates coming out every year.
