Lifestyle Exotic venues for that special day Nina Varghese
Chennai , June 15 VENUES for weddings are getting more exotic with people opting for palaces and beaches to tie the knot. Now, there are companies to cater to them also. Regal Weddings.com Pvt Ltd specialises in destination weddings in India. The Director of the Udaipur-based company, Ankit Bhargava, said that the company's portal has positioned India not just as an exotic place to get married but also for the hospitality and festivity. Vishv Vijae Singh, who manages the company, said that in the recent months they have seen a sharp increase in the number of enquiries about wedding destinations and people are seriously comparing India with Hawaii, Mauritius, Malaysia and Disneyland. He said that there have been a couple of grand weddings in Rajasthan every month. The palace venues in Udaipur, Jaipur and Jodhpur are popular with the non-resident Indians and people of Indian origin. Most of them are Punjabis, Gujaratis and Marwaris settled in the UK, the US, Canada and Australia. Regal Weddings has also organised palace weddings for foreign nationals but those are limited in number, he said. Similarly, the number of local Indian families opting for such exotic affairs is also minimal, mainly because of the large number of guests. Mr Bhargava said that the cost of a palace wedding for 100 guests would be around around Rs 15-16 lakh. The major cost is the accommodation. The average cost per person would be about Rs 7,000. One event (sangeet and dinner) would cost anywhere between Rs 8 lakh and Rs 10 lakh, he added. Goa is more popular with the foreigners as a `beach wedding' destination. The company has also started promoting Kerala as another spot and so far the response is exciting, he added.
