VSP workers resume duty

Visakhapatnam , June 17

, THE contract workers in the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, numbering over 8,000, called off their strike and resumed duties on Friday, following an agreement with the management on Thursday.

According to a press release issued by the Steel Plant Employees' Union, affiliated to the CITU, the management had agreed to pay an interim relief of Rs 300 a month to each contract worker from June.

A full-scale committee with representatives from all the unions and the management will be constituted within two months to go into the various issues and variable DA will be implemented.

The statutory minimum bonus of 8.33 per cent will be paid to the contract labour.
