Books Kolkata guide book launched Our Bureau
Kolkata , June 17 THE West Bengal Chief Minister, Mr Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, recently launched the Indian Chamber of Commerce's travel information book titled `Discover Kolkata - ICC City Guide'. According to an ICC release, the 100-page publication was tailored to meet the business and travel information needs of international and domestic visitors to the city. The guide is said to be handy in size, with pictures of the city's landscapes and other vignettes. It is designed with an international look and feel on the same lines as tourist information guides promoting London and Singapore. ICC envisages that the booklet would be circulated at the arrival lounges of Kolkata airport, seat pockets of major international and domestic airlines coming to Kolkata, retail outlets, Indian embassies abroad, foreign embassies and consulates in India, tourism offices, major travel agents, select chambers across the world, conferences, large private hospitals and key places of tourist interest. Describing the booklet as "ICC's tribute to the undying spirit of Kolkata", Mr Umang Kanoria, president of ICC, said it was the culmination of a much felt need by international and domestic business travellers and tourists for a ready reckoner on the city. "Much care has been taken to highlight the changes that have swept the city over the last few years to make it a buoyant, vibrant business destination. At the same time, we have also showcased the rich heritage of the city." Sections on "quintessentially Kolkata" and "Little Known facts about Kolkata", he said, add value to the comprehensive information encapsulated in the guide book. A taxi fare conversion chart, road and Metro maps, flight and railway schedule information are guaranteed to make it an indispensable tool for the tourist to find his way around the city easily.
