Aurobindo gets USFDA nod for AIDS drug

Hyderabad , June 17

AUROBINDO Pharma Ltd has announced that it has received the approval of the United States Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) for Lamivudine, a key anti-retroviral (ARV) in the treatment of AIDS.

The company said the development enables it to participate in the President's Emergency Plan for Aids Relief (PEPFAR), an initiative of the US Government.

The company manufactures both active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) and formulation for Lamivudine.

It is participating in PEPFAR programme, wherein around $15 billion were earmarked for the five-year programme including around $1 billion per year for medicines.
