Sun Network to relaunch Tamil daily Dinakaran

Our Bureau

Chennai , June 17

MR Kalanithi Maran's Sun Network, which has bought out the Tamil media house Dinakaran, hopes to relaunch its flagship daily, Dinakaran, in three months.

The revamp will focus on improved technology, quality of newsprint and content, Mr Maran told Business Line, while stating that the other publications from the Dinakaran stable such as Malai Murasu will continue to run and eventually be given a face-lift.

Dinakaran, headed by its Managing Director Mr K. Kumaran, also publishes Malai Murasu and Tamizh Murasu besides three weeklies — on lottery, employment and business.

Mr Maran said Sun preferred to buy out an established player such as Dinakaran to starting from scratch.

"It gives us a readymade platform to enter the Tamil dailies market."

With a circulation of around 3.2 lakh in Tamil Nadu, Dinakaran is No. 3, behind Daily Thanthi and Dina Malar.

He also said the existing team at Dinakaran will continue. "Our policy is that we will never fire anybody. Actually, we are planning to strengthen the editorial."
