Infrastructure Global cos take part in pre-bid meeting for Sethusamudram Our Bureau
Chennai , June 17 LEADING global dredging companies such as Dredging International (Netherlands), Jan De Nul (Belgium), Boskalis International b.v., Ballast Ham Dredging India, Dredging Corporation of India, and Jaisu Shipping Company on Friday participated in a pre-bid meeting of prospective dredging contractors for the Sethusamudram Ship Canal Project at Tuticorin. For the first time in the country, such a meeting was held before finalising the tender document, according to an official release. The Rs 2,427-crore project involves dredging of 82 million cubic metres. L&T Ramboll Consulting Engineers, which prepared a detailed report for the project, and the Tuticorin Port Trust made detailed presentations about the project in the meeting. The time sensitiveness of the project, its magnitude, and the need for total elimination of environmental risks were highlighted during the presentations, the release added. The dredging involves four legs, of which one would be entrusted to Dredging Corporation of India on nomination basis. A reputed dredging firm would be finalised on the basis of a global tender to execute the remaining three legs, the release said.
