A MIXED trend persisted for almost all varieties of tea at the Kochi tea auction. Though the dust sale witnessed a fair general demand, it was comparatively low for leaf varieties.

Of the quantity of 14,07,000 kg on offer in the dust category, good quality CTC's were steady to dearer. Mediums barely steady to easier. Poorer CTC's tended to ease with withdrawals. Orthodox Highgrown was easier by Rs 2-5, while mediums and secondaries remained steady.

As per the figures available with Forbes, Ewart and Figgis Pvt Ltd, the best CTC varieties commanded prices between Rs 48-63, medium CTC realised Rs 38-44 and below medium were quoted at Rs 24-30. Highgrown BOPD fetched prices between Rs 70-99, while medium BOPD realised Rs 32-37. Secondaries were quoted at Rs 28-31.

The leaf sale witnessed only a less general demand and the quantity on offer was 6,35,000 kg. Orthodox primary grades tended to ease with many withdrawals. Secondaries remained steady, while mediums were easier. Good CTC's were steady to firm, while others were easier by Re 1 to Rs 2.

Exporters to Iraq lent fair support on secondaries and sometimes on Orthodox grades. Other exporters were less active.

The best Nilgiri varieties commanded prices between Rs 46-65, medium Orthodox realised Rs 36-43 and plain Orthodox realised Rs 32-35. The best CTC leaf fetched prices between Rs 42-45, while medium CTC leaf was quoted at Rs 35-38.

In the leaf varieties, Kodanaad Cl.BOPD fetched the best prices of Rs 99, followed by Pasuparai RB at Rs 80. In the dust category, Havukal BOPF realised the best prices of Rs 93, followed by both Havukal BP and Colcumby FP at Rs 87 each.
