New committee targets Bengal

The Shipping Ministry has constituted a nine-member committee under Development Adviser (Ports) to examine various issues relating to the dredging in the Hooghly river, the operation of the Rangafella channel in the river and whether the establishment of Kulpi port in the joint sector will harm Kolkata port (including Haldia dock). The committee will have representatives from the Kolkata port, NIOT, CWPRS and West Bengal Government and is likely to submit its report in two months.
