GE Shipping buys dry bulk carrier

Mumbai , June 20

GREAT Eastern Shipping took delivery of a modern dry bulk carrier, while selling its Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) on Monday.

The company took delivery of the 45,659-DWT Handymax bulk carrier, now named Jag Reena. The company had contracted the 2000-built vessel in March 2005.

With the induction of the ship, the average age of the company's dry bulk fleet has improved to 16 years.

The company also delivered its VLCC, Vasant J Sheth, to the buyers. The 1990-built, 2.61 lakh-DWT vessel was contracted to be sold by the company in April 2005.

With the delivery of the VLCC, the company's fleet strength is now 75 vessels, comprising of 44 ships and 31 offshore units.

The company has on order 12 new-building vessels, including five tankers.
