Airlines Air Deccan to appoint new COO in 4-5 days Ashwini Phadnis
New Delhi , June 20 AIR Deccan, is to get a new Chief Operating Officer (COO) in the next few days. The low cost airline has short-listed five to six senior officials from different global airlines, including Easy Jet, South West Airline andRyanair, as also a subsidiary of Lufthansa for the post. "We will make an announcement in the next four to five days. The process is almost complete," the airline's Managing Director, Capt. G.R. Gopinath, told Business Line from London. The current officiating COO at Air Deccan will continue to work with the airline even after a full-time person is appointed to the post. "The new COO will be a purely hands-on operations person. The current officiating COO will continue to look after the technical aspect of the airline," Capt. Gopinath said. The airline took delivery of two ATR-72 aircraft at the on-going Paris air show and it shortly will induct 30 Airbus A-320 and 30 ATR aircraft. It operates A-320 aircraft on trunk routes, while the smaller ATR aircraft is operated on non-metro routes. Air Deccan reported revenues of $90 million this year, which it hopes would more than double to around $200 million by the following year. It is targeting revenues of $1 billion within the next 6-7 years, sources said.
